Discover Five Star

If you’re driving through Stroudsburg and spot Five Star at 1548 N 9th St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, United States, don’t just pass it by. I’ve eaten at plenty of local diners across Pennsylvania, and this spot genuinely surprised me. From the outside, it has that classic neighborhood feel-comfortable, unfussy, and welcoming. Step inside, though, and you immediately notice the buzz. Families catching up over breakfast, couples splitting dessert, and regulars chatting with servers who know them by name. That kind of atmosphere isn’t staged; it’s built over time.

On my first visit, I decided to test the basics. In my experience reviewing diners, you can tell a lot from how a place handles breakfast. The omelet I ordered came out fluffy, generously filled, and cooked evenly-no over-browned edges, no runny center. The home fries were crisp on the outside and soft inside, exactly how they should be. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, consistency and food quality are two of the top factors influencing repeat visits, and this diner clearly understands that. Even the coffee-often overlooked-was fresh and robust, refilled without me having to ask.

The menu is broad without feeling overwhelming. You’ll find classic American comfort food-burgers, club sandwiches, meatloaf, and pasta-alongside seafood platters and daily specials. When I returned for dinner a week later, I tried the grilled salmon. It was lightly seasoned, cooked through but still moist, and paired with crisp steamed vegetables. That balance matters. Overcooked fish is one of the most common issues in mid-range diners, but here the kitchen showed real attention to detail. The portion size was generous, yet not excessive, aligning with current dining trends that value both satisfaction and mindful eating.

What stands out most in customer reviews is the service. I’ve personally observed how the staff handles a full dining room during peak hours. Orders were taken accurately, and food arrived promptly despite the rush. There’s a system in place-servers double-check tickets, and runners communicate clearly with the kitchen. It’s a small operational detail, but it reduces mistakes. In the restaurant industry, streamlined communication is often cited by hospitality experts as a key factor in maintaining high service standards. You can see that principle in action here.

Cleanliness is another strong point. The dining area, restrooms, and even condiment stations were tidy during each of my visits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasize that visible hygiene significantly increases customer trust in food establishments. While most diners meet basic standards, not all maintain them consistently throughout busy hours. Here, staff were actively wiping down tables and sanitizing surfaces, reinforcing that sense of care.

Location also plays a role in its popularity. Being right on N 9th Street makes it convenient for locals and travelers alike. There’s ample parking, which, if you’ve ever tried squeezing into tight downtown spots, you’ll appreciate. Accessibility and ease matter, especially for families or older guests.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. During one particularly busy Saturday brunch, there was a short wait for a table. However, the host managed expectations clearly, giving an accurate time estimate. Transparency like that builds trust. I’d rather wait 15 honest minutes than be told five and stand around for twenty.

Overall, this diner delivers exactly what you want from a neighborhood restaurant: reliable food, friendly service, and a welcoming environment. Whether you’re stopping in for pancakes at sunrise or a hearty dinner after work, the experience feels consistent. In a town with multiple dining options, that reliability is what keeps people coming back-and after a few visits, I can see why so many locals consider it their go-to spot.

  • the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the print on the menus is so hard to read. it's really small. and their website is pretty wonky. the food is really good. the first time I had the sesame chicken and it wasn't too crunchy, the texture was really good, and they had no problem not putting sesame seeds on it. the second time I got the orange chicken which was delicious, and also cooked really well, the chicken was tender and the outside not too crunchy. the sauce was delicious. the only thing I had an issue with was the menu. I ended up using the camera on my phone to zoom in on it.

  • This place is has great Chinese food. Only set back is THE WAIT! YOU WILL WAIT. no way around it. I wait EVERY time i go here religiously. They are very popular. Expect to wait. SO...order AHEAD & allow extra time on top of that too. So don't go there starving unless u order ahead for real. Really good food though. Only reason for four stars in Five stsr Chinese. Please get even more help to get this fixed other than that no problem. Its been like that since they opened for years
